We meet on the second Wednesday of every month at The Den, Cunningham Road, Westhoughton, BL5 2AN. 7:30pm until 10:00 pm.
Last year, Chairman Paul Wong introduced the successor to the Club’s popular Coffee Coaster Challenge with an exciting new competition – the Table Mat Challenge.
The concept remained much the same as its predecessor, challenging members to create a diorama of any genre and any scale that told a story. The only difference was the larger base size, giving entrants even more scope for creativity and detail.
As with the Coffee Coaster Challenge before it, the competition provided many sleepless nights for members as ideas were developed, refined, and finally brought to life.
The culmination of all this hard work was showcased at the July 2026 club meeting, where ten completed entries made it to the judging table. Several other projects were reportedly still in progress but unfortunately did not reach the finish line in time.
After much deliberation by the judging panel of Paul Wong, James Nevett, Mike Baldwin, and Darren Davies, the worthy winners were announced:
🥇 Gold – John Drake (Gundam)
🥈 Silver – Chris Dawes (Star Wars)
🥉 Bronze – Nadine Payne (Lord of the Rings)
In addition to receiving the coveted trophies and certificates, each winner also took home a model kit to add to their ever-growing stash.
Congratulations to our winners and to everyone who took the time and effort to participate. The standard of modelling and storytelling on display was outstanding, and all the completed dioramas will be available to view at the Bolton Show 2027.
